David Scarr

GUEST CONDUCTOR

Born in South Africa, David Scarr received his musical training both there and in Austria, where he completed his studies in conducting with distinction at the Vienna Conservatory in 1994.
Scarr has since conducted orchestras, choirs, and chamber music ensembles, concentrating on symphonic repertoire, opera, and choral compositions.
He has conducted productions in Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, South Africa, and Australia (Sydney Opera House), directed a number of world premieres, and recorded works for Austrian Radio, South African Radio, Classic FM, and Fine Music Radio.
From 2002 to 2007, he held the position of Professor and Head of the Music Department of Rhodes University, Grahamstown in South Africa.
In 2009, he returned to Vienna where he is a conductor of the Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra.

Guido Mancusi

CHIEF CONDUCTOR

The Austrian-Italian conductor Guido Mancusi was born in Naples in 1966. Raised in a musical household, he received his first piano instruction from Nino Rota. After the death of his father, the family moved to Vienna. Mancusi became a soprano soloist in the Vienna Boys’ Choir and attended the Vienna Musikgymnasium.
After graduation, Mancusi studied bassoon and voice at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna, as well as composition and conducting at the Vienna Music University. He completed his studies with honors.
His first engagements as music director and choir director were at the City Theater Coburg (FRG), the Theater an der Wien, the Raimund Theater and the City Theater St. Pölten.
To perfect his training as a conductor, he became assistant to Riccardo Muti at La Scala in Milan, assistant in Bayreuth, and assistant to Adam Fischer.
As a conductor, he was a guest in Graz and Kiel. It was in Klagenfurt with Madame Butterfly that Mancusi finally attracted the attention of director Dietmar Pflegerl who made the young conductor the principal conductor, a position Mancusi then held for five years. There he expanded his repertoire and gained important leadership experience. His successes in Klagenfurt also allowed Mancusi to gain greater international attention.
In 1998, Mancusi took over the position of Principal Conductor of the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra and in this role, founded the Chamber Opera Schönbrunn.
With increasing prominence, he was invited on major tours in the following years and so Mancusi conducted in Moscow, Tel Aviv, Helsinki, Stockholm, Rome, Toronto, in the USA, in South America, and finally in Japan and South Korea.
In his home country, he conducted at the KlangBogen Wien and the Wiener Festwochen. Eventually he became permanent guest conductor at the Volksoper Vienna, where he has been an integral and important part of the theater since 2014.
In 2017, Mancusi received the appointment as Principal Guest Conductor of the BDZ Orchestra in Budapest and in 2018 as Music Director of the Seefestspiele Mörbisch.
From the earliest days of his musical life, Mancusi also composed. Today his compositions include masses, passions, cantatas, orchestral works, film scores, two operettas, a ballet, and an opera. Premieres and CD recordings as well as commissions prove Mancusi’s place in the cosmos of contemporary composers.
Mancusi has always considered himself a theater person, as a creator and enabler of fantastic worlds. He understands the division of the words music theater as a unity. As a composer he creates dramatic works, as a conductor he is their lawyer. An interwoven life that cannot be put in a box. This is the life he wants, and he can have it too. Composers and conductors want to give something to people – this is an ideal and Mancusi has been following this ideal for over 30 years.

Jenifer Lary

SOPRANO

Jenifer Lary will be singing a varied repertoire in the 2023/24 season.
In autumn, she will be seen at the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater as Merab in a staged performance of Handel’s oratorio “Saul”.
She will also make her debut there in spring as Pamina (The Magic Flute). On New Year’s Eve, Jenifer Lary will celebrate her premiere as Valencienne (Merry Widow) at the Coburg State Theatre, where she also jumped in as Gretel. In spring 2024 she will be seen in the leading role in a world premiere of the Aspekte Festival in Salzburg, which the composer Hossam Mahmoud composed explicitly for her voice.
In the past 2022/23 season, Jenifer Lary made her debut at the MusikTheater an der Wien as Louise in the Austrian premiere of E. Korngold’s  ” Die stumme Serenade “.  She also stepped in at short notice as Lulu at the Lüneburg Theatre, with which she had made her debut at the Heidelberg Theatre the year before, and sang Christel von der Post (Vogelhändler) at the Lehar Festival.
The young Viennese with roots in Tyrol and Israel gained her first stage experience as a child. At the age of thirteen, she was accepted at the Private University of Linz. After completing her bachelor’s degree, Jenifer Lary continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, from which she graduated with honours in 2017.
In the seasons before that, Jenifer Lary performed many roles both as a guest and as a regular. Her highlights included Giulietta (Bellini), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Annina (Eine Nacht in Venedig), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Marzelline (Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Fidelio”) and Adele (Die Fledermaus). Another highlight of her career was the virtuoso and rarely performed title role of Dinorah by Giacomo Meyerbeer and Gretel (Hansel and Gretel).
Jenifer Lary’s engagements have taken her to the Vienna Volksoper, Bregenz Festival, Musiktheater Linz and Meininger Staatstheater, among others.

Marco Di Sapia

BARITONE

Since September 2013, the baritone from Rome has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Volksoper Wien, where he can be seen in various leading roles.
In addition to his appearances at the Volksoper Wien, Marco Di Sapia has established himself in the international theater scene in recent years with a wide-ranging repertoire. Guest performances have taken him to the St. Margarethen Opera Festival, Shenzhen (Guangdong, China), the Teatro S. Carlo Napoli, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Bregenz Festival and various opera houses in France.
Marco Di Sapia was born in Genoa and grew up in Rome, where he graduated from the German School in Rome. He studied acting in the Italian capital and singing in Vienna at what is now the MUK and at the MDW Vienna.
 

Vinicius Kattah

CONDUCTOR

Born in the enchanting land of Brazil and having called Vienna, Austria, his home for the past 15 years, Vinicius Kattah is a conductor whose illustrious career has left an indelible mark on the global stage. With a journey marked by brilliance and dedication, he has risen to prominence as a revered figure in the realm of classical music.
Kattah’s ascent to the upper echelons of the classical music world was marked by an impressive victory in prestigious opera conducting competitions, which acted as the launchpad for his extraordinary career. His virtuoso baton has graced the podiums of esteemed orchestras across the seven continents, taking audiences on a transcendent musical journey from the United States to South America, Europe to Africa, Turkey to Greece, Israel to Japan, China to Australia.
In recent times, Kattah has enchanted audiences with a series of remarkable performances, including the “Austria for Life” concert alongside the legendary soprano Anna Netrebko. A world premiere of Raquel-Garcia’s opera “Je suis Narcissiste” at the Teatro Real. He also added to his list of accolades with the Viennese Opera Ball in New York, featuring renowned talents like Joyce-El-Khoury, Stephen Costello, and Donata d’Annunzio Lombardi. Kattah’s repertoire showcases his artistry with premieres of classics like Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” Verdi’s “Otello” and “La Traviata,” Beethoven’s “Fidelio,” and Massenet’s “Werther” at the Kosice State Opera.
But Maestro Vinicius Kattah’s influence transcends the confines of the stage. He has graced internationally acclaimed television programs such as the BBC, where he delved into the genius of Mozart, and participated in the documentary “Finding Cinderella,” shedding light on the process of world premiering the opera “Cinderella,” composed by the prodigious Alma Deutscher, with Kattah at the helm. Furthermore, the Brazilian channel Rede Globo has celebrated his extraordinary career, underscoring his eminence in the classical music landscape.
The unique amalgamation of Kattah’s exceptional talent, extensive experience, and magnetic charisma render him a versatile conductor, capable of transmuting any evening into an indelible experience. His unwavering passion for classical music is palpable in every nuanced gesture of his conducting, creating an enchanting and spellbinding atmosphere that lingers in the hearts of all fortunate enough to be in attendance.

Simona Eisinger

SOPRANO

The Austrian soprano obtained her master’s degree in voice at “Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität” (MUK) in Vienna.
Since her debut she has given guest performances at opera houses, such as Volksoper Wien, Theater an der Wien, Neue Oper Wien, Landestheater Linz, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich and Theater Luzern.
Her repertoire comprises roles such as Pamina and 1.Dame (Mozart: Zauberflöte), Donna Anna (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Lauretta (Puccini: Gianni Schicchi), Gretel (Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel), Ninetta (Rossini: Diebische Elster), Sylva Varescu (Kalman: Csardasfürstin) and Hansi (Stolz: Frühjahrsparade).
She is also a devoted concert and oratorio soloist. She has performed concerts and recitals in major concert halls, such as the Golden Hall in Musikverein in Vienna, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Philharmonie Gasteig in Munich, Konserthuset in Stockholm, DR Koncerthuset in Kopenhagen, Musiikkitalo in Helsinki, Santory Hall and Opera City Hall in Tokyo.
Since 2018 she has had an exclusive collaboration with the Austrian composer Guntolf Palten (1927*) and has recorded his complete Lied compositions for the label Preiser Records for the very 1st time worldwide (6 CDs).

Michael C. Havlicek

BARITONE

Michael C. Havlicek was born in Vienna.
He studied at the Konservatorium Wien University where he made his diploma in the title role of „Don Giovanni“ in 2004. He took part in master classes conducted by Walter Berry. Now he is coached by Prof. Heidrun Franz Vetter in Berlin.
In 2005 he made his Opera Debut as „Papageno“ in the Stadttheater St.Pölten and also had great success in this role during a Japan tour in the summer of 2005.
Recitals („Dichterliebe“ by R. Schumann, „Schwanengesang“ by F. Schubert) and Opera- concerts took him to South Africa, Sweden, Argentina, France, Germany and the USA.
In 2011 he made his debut at “Vienna Volksoper”, where he sung until now – as a member of the Volksoper-Company – many different roles: Papageno (Magic Flute), Masetto (Don Giovanni ), Boni (Die Csardasdürstin), Pappacoda (Night in Venice), Toni (Zirkusprinzessin), Baron Douphol (La Traviata), Gustl (Land of smiles), Dancairo (Carmen) etc.
At „Opera Bastille“ in Paris he made his debut in “La flute enchantee”, conducted by Phillipe Jordan in 2014.
In Austria he is famous for his combination of “acting and singing” of many characters in Opera and Operetta. He was the winner of many Competitions of “Vienna Music”.
After his debut at “Musiktheater Linz” 2017, he appeared as Danilo (The merry widow), Boni ( Csardásfürstin), Vater ( Händel und Gretel ), Paul (Der Opernball), Schaunard ( La Boheme ) and Hunter (Rusalka) . In 2019 he appeared as Dr.Falke at the “Festival Kufstein”, 2020 he made his successful debut at “Staatstheater Karlsruhe” as Papageno and in 2021 as Don Fernando in „Fidelio“. 2022 he sang „Porgy“ in Porgy and Bess at the Classic Festival Lech.
In 2023 he started with the role of Fritz Kothner in „Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“ at the Musiktheater Linz, conducted by Markus Poschner.

Portugal 2025

Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra on successful Tour in Portugal
Under the baton of conductor Vinicius Kattah, the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra recently completed a highly successful concert tour through Portugal, held from April 29 to May 5, 2025.
The orchestra delighted audiences in seven cities—Lisbon, Palmela, Sintra, Braga, Porto, Coimbra, and Aveiro—as part of the grand Strauss 200th Anniversary World Tour.
The performances featured acclaimed soloists Simona Eisinger – soprano and Michael Havlicek – baritone, who brought the timeless music of Strauss to life with passion and elegance.
Each evening was met with enthusiastic applause and heartfelt appreciation from the warm and welcoming Portuguese audiences.

"Bei uns z'Haus mit Mozart & Strauss"
Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra & Joe Hofbauer
The Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra offered a greeting “from castle to castle” at the opening concert in front of the Hunyadi Palace. The orchestra, which acts as the musical ambassador of our country on its world tours, presented a classical-Austrian program from Mozart and Haydn to waltz music.
Under its chief conductor Guido Mancusi, the orchestra, together with solo trumpet player Joe Hofbauer, played probably the most famous concert for his instrument – the trumpet concerto by Joseph Haydn. The evening was marked by the music that the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra has been bringing to the public from and around the world in an distinctive way for over 20 years.
